Olympic Games 2021 – Surfing: thanks to a splendid wave, Gabriel Medina eliminates the last Frenchman Michel Bourez

The Brazilian world number one made a splendid figure to qualify for the semi-finals on Tuesday at the expense of Michel Bourez.

The conditions of the Tsurigasaki spot were finally met, Tuesday July 27, to offer a spectacle on the occasion of the first surfing event in the history of the Olympic Games. The Brazilian star Gabriel Medina, world number one, took the opportunity to make a fantastic wave and  eliminated the Habs Michel Bourez in the quarter-finals.  With a score of 9, he had the best score on a wave in these Olympics before his compatriot Italo Ferreira did even better a few minutes later (9.73).

Unfortunately, it was against the last French competitor that Medina pulled out all the stops. Michel Bourez also performed well with a very honorable score of 13.66 for his two waves. The last one, a perfectly executed hit and performed in the last minutes of the session, allowed him to get closer to Medina, without being able to worry him more. With 15.33 points in total, the latter qualified for the semi-finals. He will face the Japanese Kanoa Igarashi.
