Golf: Tiger Woods injured in traffic accident and taken to hospital

Tiger Woods was involved in a traffic accident on Tuesday when he was around 7am in California according to information from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office. The American golf star was alone behind the wheel of his vehicle and was taken to hospital to treat his injuries.

Tiger Woods was the victim of a traffic accident while traveling through a coastal residential area on the outskirts of Los Angeles. “The pilot and sole occupant has been identified as golfer Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods,” the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said in a statement Tuesday evening. He specifies that this collision involved the only vehicle of the golfer, winner of the Augusta Masters in 2019 . “The vehicle sustained major damage,” the statement also read, “Mr. Woods was freed from his vehicle by firefighters and paramedics and then taken to the local hospital (…) for his injuries.”

Multiple leg injuries

In a statement, Tiger Woods’ agent said the athlete ” suffered from multiple leg injuries .” ” He is currently in the operating room ,” said Mark Steinberg. No other vehicle appears to be involved in the crash, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Services. According to a police source quoted by the Los Angeles Times, the golfer was traveling at high speed and lost control of his SUV before passing over the central barrier. The car is said to have rolled over several times when leaving the road. Images broadcast by local television showed the SUV on the roof Tuesday morning, the hood appearing to be badly damaged.

The former world number 1 was in full rehabilitation after undergoing back surgery last December. Winner of five green jackets at Augusta during his career, Tiger Woods was uncertain for the next edition of the Masters next April. He had indicated that his return to competition would be done in agreement with his medical staff.
