Death of George Floyd: more than twenty-two years in prison for the police

In the  States STATES, policeman Derek Chauvin was sentenced Friday, June 25 from  twenty to two  and a half years in prison for the murder of African- Americ ain George Floyd.

Twenty-two  and a half years in prison for the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis. The sentence fell Friday, June 25th against Derek Chauvin, former policeman of 45 years remained kneeling on the neck of the African- Ameri cain to asphyxiation. The requisitions amounted to  thirty  years in prison. Four aggravating circumstances were retained: “an abuse of trust and authority”, “the great cruelty” of the act, the presence of minors and clerks in a meeting. A relief for the family of George Floyd who had called for the maximum sentence:  forty  years in prison.

Another trial in March 2022

Just before the sentencing, Derek Chauvin had expressed his condolences to the family of the victim. It was his first public speaking. During the trial, he chose not to testify. His lawyer had pleaded an error in good faith. On April 20, the ex-policeman was found guilty before appealing the verdict. His three colleagues will be tried in March 2022 for complicity in murder and will face federal justice for violating George Floyd’s constitutional rights.
