A new novel, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, has kept actor Matthew Perry very busy this week as he reflects on his life and career.
In a fresh excerpt from the book, the Friends star claims that he was accidently punched by Cameron Diaz on a group date, and also explains why he ended his relationship with the “smart and gorgeous” Julia Roberts in 1996.
He claims that Diaz, 50, was fixed up with Perry, 53, in 2007 after her breakup with Justin Timberlake.
According to Perry, Diaz “wasn’t interested in him at all” after getting “immediately stoned” at a party.
During a game of Pictionary, Perry recalled, the actor muttered “something clever,” and she accidently smacked his face when she meant to hit his shoulder.
How about, “Are you f***ing kidding me?” What Perry remembers saying.
Diaz’s camp has been reached out to by The Independent for comment.
According to Perry, he and Roberts would send “hundreds” of faxes to each other daily despite their hectic schedules when they were together.

In the excerpt from his memoir published by The Times, Perry recalled how, “three or four times a day, I would sit by my fax machine and watch the piece of paper slowly disclosing her next missive.”
He said, “I was so excited that there were nights when I found myself out at some party having a seductive dialogue with a beautiful woman and then cutting the conversation short to get home and see if a fresh fax had arrived.” One had, nine times out of ten.
Perry remarked that he felt “she was placed on this globe to make the world smile” because of Roberts’ “clever” comments.

He went on to say that their first phone conversation lasted five hours because of how interesting she was to listen to because of “the way she strung things together, the way she saw the world,” and the way she conveyed her distinct opinions.
Perry claimed he was “confident” Roberts would break up with him because he was “too much” for her.
And he said, “So instead of confronting the inevitable sorrow of losing her, I broke up with the beautiful and bright Julia Roberts.”
Perry also claims that he was rejected by Jennifer Aniston long before they started working together on Friends.
