Mathew Rosengart, Britney Spears’ new lawyer, plans to ask a Los Angeles court that the singer’s guardianship be withdrawn from her father “as soon as possible”.

“We will file a motion as soon as possible to remove Mr. Spears from this role.” This is what Mathew Rosengart, Britney Spears’ new lawyer, said on Wednesday July 14. He plans to ask a Los Angeles court to have the singer’s guardianship, which deprives her of much of her autonomy, withdrawn from her father “as soon as possible”.

The  39-year-old singer was placed under guardianship in 2008, after a highly publicized descent into hell at the time. The conditions are strict and stipulate that the decisions concerning her are taken in particular by her father Jamie Spears, with whom she has long had difficult relations.

The star said in particular that she wanted an investigation against her father, and mentioned a possible “protection order” against him. In tears,  Britney Spears  begged the court to end this “abusive guardianship”. A plea that echoed his testimony delivered at the end of June, where the singer had said “traumatized” and “depressed”.

The queen of pop therefore once again implored the court, Wednesday, July 14, to lift the tutelage to which she is still subject. For the first time since the establishment of his guardianship 13 years ago, the interpreter of Baby One More Time , has regained hope. Indeed, the judge in charge of this case allowed Britney Spears to choose her own lawyer, which she could not do until now. It is therefore Mathew Rosengart, known for having defended other Hollywood stars in the past, such as Sean Penn or Steven Spielberg, who will now represent the singer.
