United States: target of 100 million vaccinations reached on Friday

Set by Joe Biden for the first 100 days of his mandate, the goal of 100 million vaccinations should be reached on Friday March 19, after 58 days in the White House.

Large-scale vaccination continues in the United States, where Joe Biden assured that this Friday, March 19 will mark an important step in the fight against Covid-19. Indeed, the goal set by the Democratic president to administer 100 million doses of vaccine during the first 100 days of his mandate should be reached well before the deadline. “By the 58th day of my mandate, we will have reached my goal of 100 million injections,” Potus said Thursday, referring to his campaign pledge.

“We are way  ahead of our schedule , but there is still a long way to go,” he added. “Now is the time for optimism, but we must not relax,” said Joe Biden. In recent weeks, the pace of  the vaccination campaign in  the United States has increased dramatically. It is currently 2.4 million doses per day on average, down from just under a million when the Democrat took office on January 20.

Enough vaccines for all adults in May

In this context, it seems realistic to consider a doubling of the initial objective, that is to say 200 million vaccinations during the first 100 days of Biden’s mandate. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), nearly 30% of Americans over 18 have received at least one dose. This figure rises to over 65% for Americans 65 and over.

As soon as he came to power,  some Republicans had joked about  Joe Biden’s goal , considered too weak. Three vaccines are now authorized in the United States: that of Johnson & Johnson (only one dose needed per person) and those of the Pfizer / BioNTech alliance and Moderna (two doses).
