United States: Joe Biden received his third dose of anti-Covid vaccine

The 78-year-old US president received his Covid-19 vaccine booster on Monday, after the United States opened it up last week to over 65s and people at “risk.”

It is an injection noticed within the framework of the American vaccination campaign. US President Joe Biden, 78, received his third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on Monday, September 27, live on television , to encourage eligible Americans to do the same.

60 million Americans eligible for booster dose

Joe Biden is  due to travel to Chicago on Wednesday, September 29, “to talk about why it is so important that more businesses impose a vaccine requirement ,” he said. This type of obligation, which is not established at the federal level in the United States, is seen as a major tool in order to increase the number of people who are immunized.

The US president, Joe Biden took a third Covid-19 booster shot on Monday and said the people who refused to get vaccinated were damaging the country.

Biden got a third Pfizer dose in line with the recently approved health guidance, which allows boosters for those 65 or older reported AFP.

Aside from senior citizens, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) last week approved boosters for adults with high-risk medical conditions and frontline workers as they were constantly exposed to the virus.

Biden said that the problem was that there was a large chunk of Americans who still refused to get vaccinated which is causing the Delta variant to spread around the country. Biden said 77 percent of Americans had got vaccines but this wasn’t enough, with still nearly a quarter refusing.

The authorities have warned of a pandemic among unvaccinated in states like Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida where vaccination rates are much lower.

Earlier, this month, Biden announced a series of measures to try to get more people vaccinated, including requiring federal workers to be inoculated and mandating that companies with more than 100 employees ensure their workers are vaccinated or tested regularly for the virus.

Biden announced at the UN General Assembly last week that the US government would double its purchases of the Pfizer vaccine, raising to 1.1 billion the number of doses for distribution to other nations during the next year.

President Joe Biden received a Covid-19 booster shot Monday at the White House, just days after the CDC recommended a third shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for certain at-risk groups.

In a brief speech at the White House ahead of getting his third dose, the president said that “boosters are important, but the most important thing we need to do is get more people vaccinated.”

The roughly 23 percent of Americans who have not received a single shot are “causing an awful lot of damage for the rest of the country,” he said.

Biden, 78, received his second shot of the Pfizer vaccine on-camera in January. The new guidance says that people in the president’s age range should get a booster shot six months after their second dose.

“I know it doesn’t look like it, but I am over 65,” Biden said. “And that’s why I am getting my booster today.”

First lady Jill Biden, 70, also received a booster shot Monday afternoon, her spokesperson Michael LaRosa said.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, on Friday endorsed a third shot of the Pfizer vaccine for people 65 and older and residents in long-term care settings, as well as people 50 to 64 years old who have an underlying medical condition.

She also surprised some by extending the endorsement to include essential workers such as teachers and grocery store employees, going further than the recommendations by a panel of CDC advisers.
